We started our family much later than most, and there were times I wasn’t sure that we would have much time with grandkids. To our joy, our son is now engaged and his fiancé and their family live with us. I have so many wonderful memories of my grandparents and am eternally thankful that I get to make new memories right in my own home. From reading stories at bedtime or planting seeds in the garden, having our grandchildren at home is wonderful.

Our granddaughter loves to help around the house, even when sometimes the chore has to be redone. Recently, we were making homemade pizza for dinner and of course she wanted to help. By the way, the dough recipe is fantastic, super tasty, quick and can be found here. We made Chicken Bacon Ranch and Pepperoni. Watching her and Grandma rolling the dough, adding the toppings, and just making the core memories was a moment to cherish. I was not prepared for how emotionally impacting watching the two of them together would be. And while she may not understand it yet, I am confident that our granddaughter made a core memory this night.

Our kitchen is probably the central gathering place in our house and seeing the two of them together touched my heart. Just as the food feeds our bodies, these little moments feed our souls. While our kids have great relationships with their grandparents, I know that because of the miles, they all missed out on these little moments. Families are meant to be together. Cherish yours. Make the memories. Take the time to do the things with the kids that may take longer.
